DanceMom.com is writing the book on dance
parenting, and you're providing the expertise. It's
actually a "virtual book" that will take shape on this site. We are
pleased to introduce a new section to DanceMom.com where we will
compile some of the most valuable input that our readers
have provided, and we may even add a few thoughts of our
own. We'll present each
"chapter" in a printer-friendly PDF form so you can print
your own copies, save them to your PC, email them to other
dance parents or even post them at your dance studio. In the weeks ahead we'll introduce new
topics, gather your input and edit the material into additional
chapters. Got a suggestions?

About
Our Newest Chapter |
|
When we published the
first on-line entry of our Dance Mom Handbook and
invited your suggestions for future chapters, the
flood gates opened with request after request
pouring in for chapters on etiquette -- everything
from recital audience etiquette, to how to leave a
studio, to how to properly accept an award.
We've got a little time before recital season, so
we've started with awards etiquette.
We at DanceMom.com
share your concern about the sloppy manner in which
awards presentations are often conducted. We
may suggest some guidelines to competitions someday,
but today our focus is on teaching our children how
to graciously accept an award. Too often we
confuse the word "gracious" with the word "phony."
That's not what we're after. We're talking
about "Manners 101."
Please give our
latest chapter a read and let us know what you
think. And here's an offer to dance studios to
show just how serious we are about this subject.
If any studio owner sends us an email telling us
they've distributed these guidelines to their
competition team and actually conducted an awards
practice based on them, we'll give that studio a
shout-out on our site and a free one-year listing in
the "Studios" portion of our online Resources
section. That's free advertising for you in
return for teaching good manners to your students.
