In September 2006, we posted a page on DanceMom.com
seeking dance parents who were willing to write a few articles for
us, either on a one-time or an on-going basis. Connie was one
of those who stepped forward. In her note to
us she commented, "I'm willing to write something, but I'm not sure that
you'll want me writing for you, since I'm usually on the opposite
side from most people."
If nothing else, DanceMom.com is a place that
welcomes diversity of opinions, so we saw this as an opportunity to
showcase -- and even provoke -- a look at the unexplored side of every
issue. So that's the challenge Connie has taken on.
In each "Pro & Connie" feature, we'll present the views of a dance parent on any one of a variety
of issues, and we'll challenge Connie to write the opposing view.
It doesn't matter how she really feels
about something. Her job is to see and defend the other
side of it. We hope it's eye
opening, thought provoking and entertaining.
So, please welcome
Connie...

Well, I guess this is the part where I'm supposed to
disagree. Let me start by questioning the
question. Instead of, "Who is Connie and why is she here?" it
should read, "How did I get myself into this?"
Yes, I am a real dance mom, and I've
got the scars to prove it.
Yes, it is true that I offered to write something
for DanceMom.com, but I had no idea I was auditioning for a
permanent gig.
Yes, I am a bit of a rebel, and I sometimes like
to play
Devil's
Advocate and spar with people
just for kicks... which I guess is what earned me this
assignment.
Truthfully, I agreed to do this
without much arm twisting at all, though negotiations nearly fell
apart when I insisted that none of those "glamour mom" photos could
appear at the top of my articles. Notice who won?
Okay, then, I'm ready when you are,
so bring it on. Pick a dance subject and tell me what's on your
mind.
Drop me
a note, and let's get started.
